Ditto with the congrats. A friend and I tried a new place for us, Lake Charlotte off the Trinity River near I-10. Took a 29 lb blue on a jug line. It was nice and a personal best for both of us...it took both of us to get it on his kayak. Great to get those big ones. I'll be going back with my R&R.

James, I hope you had a decent scale to weight that fish with, its not uncommon for scales to be off by several pounds once you get over the 20 pound mark. If you are not sure, you might want to up something with it that you are certain weights real close to the 30 or 35 or 40 lbs mark (workout weights can work) to check the scale. Point being, if the scale you used is weighting short just by a pound or two ... you may have caught the Lake Waco record blue. Check this out:

Then again, maybe you don't want to know. :smile2:

Very nice blue cat. I still cant figure out the winter bite. I catch a lot more big fish in the summer than winter. I know they can be caught in the winter and big ones like yours. Congrats.

well, i knew it was gonna be close to lake record so i took it to feed store where they have certified scales. I thought the lake record was 38 but i guess its closer to my fish than i thought.

He'll be bigger next time i get him.

oh, i forgot to tell everyone what kind of bait i was using. My friend caught a sucker on sunday and was not gonna eat or use it so i got it from him. i used that for bait. just a 2"x2" chunk on 6/0 hook. He was the only bite i had on the sucker. the other two fish were caught on shad.

Nice fish. I'm a retired LEO and its fun to see that we can do something else to enjoy ourselves. Just curious, how did you suspend your bait at the 20' mark? You can send me a PM if you'd like. Congratulations and be safe out there!
