Started out fishing this morning with a friend that has only fished Lake Marion once. We started drifting and the second fish he caught was his personal best of 38lbs. Beat his previous one of 8lbs. Then around 11:30 I was hungry and got a turkey sandwich which he had provided. I was half-way done eating the sandwich and chips...and the rod went down. I was sitting on the front deck while holding the sandwich, got the rod out of the holder, and held on. By this time he had come to the front of the boat. Being his first time to fish Santee, I was letting him catch all the fish. I almost handed him the rod, but instead I gave him the sandwich. After several runs, and getting into a stump, he put her in the net. She went 62lbs. I could not believe my eyes!!! My personal best had been at 40lbs. We took a few pictures, revived her and saw her swim away. I'm sure glad this post was not of a turkey sandwich. We ended up catching 9, but what a 9 it was. Drifting threadfin shad, 17' of water, temp - 81. This is one day I will never forget.
