Meet up with some fellas in SC today to fish hartwell in the yaks. The lake is lower than lanier, but is coming up! We fished in the middle of a creek and everyone caught fish. It was a nice mixed bag of fish, catfish, hybrids, largemouth bass, stripers and even a white bass! Fish were landed on live herring, trout but my most effective lure was a flex-it spoon vertical jigged! Caught a ten pound striper that hit the spoon on the drop, man that thing pulled me in circles! A few pics:

Took me back to old times fishing in Hartwell, used to fish there frequently during the summer, caught some nice cats there! Plan to fish there more in 09!

Whats the biggest fish you've caught in that thing? I bet it was fun catching that striper in it.

Creteus, the sit in works! Come on out sometime!

Droptine, biggest fish to date in the yak is a 20ish striper, I have landed many in the 12 to 15 pound class. Nice thing about a big fish is it pulls you around and the kayak acts as part of the drag system for you!

Looking to break the 30 pound mark in 09 with stripers, and also catch a big cat! The big mis-conception about kayak fishing is that a big fish will pull you over or something......people have landed huge tarpons and sail fish from them, they are stable! Should handle a big blue or a flat head just fine!

Well, I just bought a new yak, so I have to rig it up, I plan to test it out next Tuesday. You are more than welcome to join in! I normally fish lanier once per week, sometimes more.
