i use ugly stiks right now 7foot m or m/h with my penn 209 and a phlueger baiter. just depends on what u are wanting to catch. if the lake has nice size cats (10-30lb range) then u want a good setup to haul them in.

Depends on what you are targeting. What size line you are running and so on. I lake and river fish with 10 footers but that is me. Check out www.castawaylakes.com for great rods and other stuff or the www.catfishconnection.com Hope this helps .

10-11 foot med/action rod and 6-16 lb. test line (depending on what your targeting) and a DECENT reel! (I always suggest Shimano) but what ever you can get.
    Good luck and tight lines!

Boat or shore? You will very seldom need the longer rods in a boat. Open water, or snags & such? Open water allows you to play your fish; snags require that you do some 'horsing' to get the cat in before it tangles you up.
