Do lake and pond water levels help or hurt how the fish bite?

imo high water can be good, but if ya hit it when its falling, the fish usually head out.lower water levels usually come from heat and evaporation, which is no good,or when they let the water out of flood control lakes in the fall, but you can still catch them if you get to the right spot.

i agree with hunted, high water isnt always bad especially in spring, find the shallows where the sun has penetrated first and u can get into them pretty quick, also a creek mouth into a lake or pond will be a great spot too cause of the oxygenated water, especially after the drought last year, the club i belong to the lake was just not any good at all, already this spring ive noticed the fish are really going nuts and its cause of all the rain and snow melt weve had and the flow back in the lake. falling water is hard to fish usually when the water is falling the fish will back off the shallows and stage deeper and alot harder to catch.

Brittan .... They are many other things you need to consider other than just the level of the water. This time of year one of the most important is the water temp and another is where are the bait fish.

Normally this time of year with the water temps being pretty cool yet the fish will migrate to shollower water to feed, because the water warms faster there and the bait fish will head into those areas.

Look for the floodplain cut-off line and fish just inside and out side of this area.

Also high water dislodges grubs, worms and other food that the prey fish and bait fish look for....

Hope this helps some ...

Good Luck .... Garry-
