Anybody fish the area where the KY hits the Ohio to Lock 1????? Wondering if the part of the river is safe for smaller boats (16 ft tri hull, 5.5 beam) and if it has alot of barge traffic???? The barges on the Ohio make me nervous....and I doubt I'll take my boat out on the ohio. Want a short road trip with decent oppurtunity to catch big flatties and blues.

    Any info would be appreciated.....Thanks

Chris, you have to launch in the Ohio at the mouth in Carrolton, but after 100 yards you will be up in the KY, no barges run the KY anymore so you won't have to worry about them. The fishing can be great in there year round, just depends on if you have good bait and the bite is good. I have seen 50 pound fish come from that stretch more than once. Vern
