LOL, Ok My fiance and I moved to Kernersville in December. We were going to Rowan county (where I'm from) to fish even when we lived in Winston but with the economy the way it is and the finances almost non existant we need somewhere closer to home to fish. We've tried Belews Lake but were told by wildlife officials you have to have a boat. We've cruised around and can't seem to find anything close. We PREFER cat fishing but we'll take what we can get (so to speak) We always do catch and release.
Where can we go fishing from the bank around here? (Forsyth, Guilford area for those who don't know where Kernersville is) Thanks for the help gentlemen.

You can still fish Belew's but you have to find spots near the highway. 65 and 150 are good places to fish. Google earth is very helpful. Just be mindful of the passing hellraisers from time to time.

The only place I've fished at in K-Vegas was Kernersville Lake Park. It can be a very frustrating place to catfish at times. If you go there, fish from the concrete pier to the edge of the woods on the left side of pier. Mostly small channel cats and an occasional bullhead. It's free to fish there and they do have a website. It does get really crowded on the weekends. Also, there's fish feeders set-up on the whole lake. Imo, it ruined the fishing there. Hope this helped some.

If you like to fish from the bank there are plenty of city lakes close to Kernersville. The three Greensboro city lakes (Higgins,Brandt, and Townsend) and Oak Hollow in High Point and High Point city lake in Jamestown all can be fished from the bank. Lake Makintosh in eastern Guilford county is also a nice place to fish. Alot of these places have jon boats you can rent and if you have a trolling motor and a battery well there you go. If not go to the pawn shop on Main St. in Kernersville and buy one cheap. You don't have to have a trolling motor it just makes fishing more enjoyable. I grew up within walking distance of Kernersville town lake and I wouldn't go there now. Back in the 80's before it was a park and just a big pond in the woods the fishing was great. We used to catch monster cats but we never put them back. I was a kid and we ate everything we caught. Probably didn't hurt anything then because it was just a few of us that would take the time to clear a spot there to fish. Anyway I hope this helps.

Tom a lex? Where's that? I've never heard of it.

Thom-A-Lex is in Davidson County about 15 minutes south of Winston.

Hwy. 52 south to the Welcome exit #97
At top of ramp turn left.
Go a tenth of a mile turn right onto Thomas Rd. go 2.5 miles
Turn right onto Ridge Rd. go 1.7 miles
Turn left onto Yokely Rd. go .6 miles and tackle shop is on the right
Also, here's the link:

Check out Salem Lake also. The lake has a pier and boat rental, but no bank fishing. Here again is where that trolling motor would come in handy. Might need to get there soon though as I understand they are draining the lake in November for 2 years in order to rebuild the dam.

That's correct. I thought it wasn't supposed to be that long though? Still some good sized bass in there?

Thanks for the help guys. It is much appriciated. We live off the Colfax exit in Kville. There's a sign saying Cape Fear River Basin. Does anyone know where it is and if fishing is allowed from the bank?

The Cape Fear is the same as the Deep River which is just a little creek in your area. Cape Fear basin just means that all of the small creeks around you are dumping in to the river. If you want to fish a river do to Walnut Cove and fish the Dan or go west of Winston and fish the Yadkin.
