I use the palomar knot 90% of the time and the clinch knot, improved or two turn. I was just wondering what everybody uses on there terminal tackel.

I also use the palomar most of the time. Just about quit using the cinch knot. Also use dropper loops and snells for tying two hook rigs depending on the situation.

The palomar is my favorite knot, it ties easy, its strong, and it works on all types of lines.

palomar for straight eyed hooks, uni-snell for up or down turned eyed hooks, surgeon's loop for the top of the leader or a stand out loop, and a blood knot for a shock leader when i am free lining.

I like to Snell the hooks and use the Palomar on everything else. Has always worked for me.

Same for me but I have just learned about these knots since I found the BOC.

question: what knot should be used for tying on lures?

    Thanks

The palomar not I tie is on the eye only And not the the shank. I don't Know if it makes a differance or not, I have never tried it. It will be interesting to see how everybody else ties theirs.

When I tie mine I tighten the end loop around the knot itself. I have never tied one that tightens on the shank or eye like that. One other thing, on the program North American Fisherman all this spring they have been doing a segment each episode called "Knot Wars" where they pit two knots on a pulling machine with a scale to see at what poundage each knot breaks side-by-side. The palomar knot never broke at the knot, the line itself always broke first. Every knot they ran aginst the palomar lost. They did these tests with mono of different tests and the same with superlines like power pro. The palomar won every contest hands down. Just a little info. Check out the program for yourself.

I use a tie-fast knot tyer. This is a sweet tool. Will tie a nail knot, a snell and good for tapered leaders to a float line.
