kind of a shot in the dark..

    this weekend i'll be taking one of my trips to a little town called earlville iowa. we fish the mississippi in a town called guttenburg. just curious if anyone fishes that area and might be able to give me a few tips for getting into some flathead there. we have a boat also

    If you fish below the dam, try looking for snags in the cuts around the islands. You can fish the Wisconsin side of the river with your Iowa license, just have to follow Wisconsin rules. There isn't much difference in the regs on the boundary waters, so you will be fine.

    The water temp is in the lower- to mid- 60's and the river level is dropping slowly and steadily. The flatheads are starting to move towards the spawning areas. I've heard that some decent flatheads have been caught in the tailwaters of the dam at Guttenberg during the last week or so, but I haven't heard about baits being used.
