What is a good way if any, to keep shad alive in a bait bucket. Even with an airator I can't seem to keep but a couple alive while I get to my destination. Any suggestions

hey... there have been a couple of posts about keepin shad alive, can't tell you exactly where... but anyways... how many are you keeping in what size bucket... the oils that the shad release when they are nervous contain a chemical that takes oxygen out of the water... if you have too many in the bucket they will all die quickly... the only thing to do is to keep refreshing the water, and keep the water cold if you can... this will slow the fish down, so they will need less oxygen and they will not put out as much oils... or you could try a cooler, but that would just be too heavy if you need to move it from place to place.
