I do some of both. I like to eat catfish, but I never keep more than I will use.

I normally release them myself unless the wife says to bring some home. Also another question would be, what size should they be to become a keeper?

I keep 4 to 12 pound blues and release everthing smaller or larger. I feed a lot of needy folks and some church folks plus my family and I love to eat them too. I don't catch flatheads but I have heard they are tasty so if I do catch some in my size range I will give them a try. We don't really care for the taste of channel cats much so they all get released little or big.

    That's funny Phil!

The river here is polluted so everything goes back even if we are hungry.

I release all the fish I catch regardless of size. Yes I practice CPR. I don't see anything wrong with keeping a few to eat. Five pound and under. But the big fish needs to be returned to our waters.

I do it on a fish by fish basis. Most of the big ones go back and all of the fish with roe go back during the spawn. If I aint going to clean and eat it, it goes back.

I CPR 99% of the Cats I catch. However I do keep some Channels for the frying pan once in awhile. I'm usually to tired after a long night of fishing to deal with cleaning fish so I release them. I have no problem with anyone keeping fish for the table but I do like to see the big boys released!

I may keep one or two of the 4lb cats that I pull in a month. Otherwise it's all catch and release.

I would never eat any fish from the allegheny. It's full of pcbs mercury and who knows what else. Local lakes on the other hand are great for an eater or 2. I try to keep them to a minimum though. preserving the population and what not.
