Missouri River runs through just south of Liberty. There several access sites within driving distance.

I wouldn't expect anything too big at Watkins Mill, but you should be able to catch channel cats and crappie, with an outside shot at a flathead. I believe you have to stop by the park office and get a night fishing permit (was free as of a couple of years ago) if you want to fish late.

watkins mill has not been very productive this year due to last years dam repairs. the lake was nearyly drained for almost a whole year. i recomend smithville or mo river. there is a river access off of 291 hwy just south of liberty. Good luck.
