construction is almost complete on the dam and the fishing has been great downstream of the dam.catching alot of channels on premo in the deeper holes.all you kansas river rats should take advantage of this good cold weather fishing. with the new dam in place the spring floods are going to reshape that whole area. my regular holes i have always fished are starting to fill up with sediment now that current has been changed just hope it does not get to shallow:big_smile_2:

i drove by there today on my way back to topeka w/ a load of brush from independence. wish i had my gear cuz its lookin good down there. i walked down there once & i parked by the peterbuilt shop alongside the main road that goes by there. is that the only parking there ?? also, is there access on the other side of the river by the weir ??
Parking by Peterbuilt is the way to go. On the other side you end up playing cat and mouse with the railroad security, and you are trespassing on that side. I know of people who have done it, but word is that if you park on the road up there you can expect someone to come down looking for you.
totally right Gary... Man I'm ready to get on it
Kenny , your always ready, but you never go. Ill tell ya again like I told ya last year. When your seriously ready, give me a call. :0a30:
lol... You're right Keith... Imma be back on it this year
Is the fishing any good there for those of us poor folk who don't have a boat?
Also where can I go for some shore line catfishin'
When the water is running good down there, but the river is not too high that you cant get down there, it is one of the best bank fishing spots on the Kaw.:smile2:

you talkin bout goin today ??

Not til this upcoming weekend.
Kevin , the Kaw is too high right now to get down to the good spots. When the Desoto gauge reads around 3000 cfs or less, itll be accessible down there. Check this link.

Oh but thats when it's good. The fish really get up in there when the damn is just a underwater speed bump.
Keith, thanks for the info, I'll use the web. I used to fish the weir about 12 years ago and usually had good luck. We also used to fish up Mill Creek a little, but we had to enter the railroad property to get there.
Water flow permitting, Ill be down at 435 every fri and sat april and may.

Let me know when you go Keith, I will be there too.
Are there any places to camp (camper) that's not to far from the weir? Jerald and I were talking about fishing there with some of you folks. We'd probably make it an overnighter on a weekend. We'd bring the camper to have some place to sleep and his truck to get to the fishing. Another consideration (for me) how much walking would be involved, as I kinda limited on how far I can walk, specially carrying my gear.
OK so where do you have to park thewe days to get down to the river?
