ASTRA is pleased to announce the launch of a new website to deliver results of our statewide lake mapping program to the general public.

Aimed primarily at boaters, fishermen, and other recreational users of our state waters, www.kansaslakemaps.com provides free lake bottom contour (bathymetric) maps of over two dozen local, state, and federal lakes and reservoirs across the state.

The site is designed to allow a user to select a lake based on its name, area, depth, location by county, or proximity to the nearest city. Users can download a map suitable for viewing and printing in PDF format from the site.

Data for creating the lake maps came from ASTRA's long-term program of reservoir bathymetric surveys, funded primarily by the Kansas Water Office under the Reservoir Sustainability Initiative.

As additional lakes continue to be mapped by ASTRA, maps for those reservoirs will be posted on the website, with the long-term intent of providing maps for nearly every reservoir in the state.

Contour maps of the lake bottom are the first product to be delivered via the website, with additional products in development.

Mark, outstanding job. Love the detail and information on the contour
and index interval lines . Makes the maps easier to read without tracing
the contour lines to see what the depth is. Keep up the good work.

    Thanks all.

Keep checking back on the site, as we'll be adding new lakes and new maps on a pretty regular basis. Also, comments and suggestions for improvements, additional information on the map, or new kinds of maps are always appreciated.

    Cheers,
    MJ

    Mark,
Don't know if your a catfisherman and scientist, or just a scientist?
You're welcome on my boat anytime. I'll be happy to show you how these maps contribute to success. I don't fish because I'm bored or need to get away from the Mrs.
A sincere thank you for sharing your research with us.
    Rick

Great idea, but not one lake anywhere near where I fish. Come on people, there are lakes out here in werstern Ks., but if we keep getting ignored like we have been, my thoughts of this site may change.

John, he is not affiliated with the Boc, nor does he choose which lakes to do. There arent any lakes on there near me either.
No offense, but you are the only one "out there" and you only come one here once in a blue moon. No one is ignoring you.

OK, I think we're scheduled to do Kirwin, Sebelius, Waconda, and Cedar Bluffs starting about a year from now.

Also, Coldwater and a couple others down in the southwest whose names escape me at the moment....
