I went to the river (creek) to harvest bait but the water was up a half foot because of rain and the current in places was heavy. I decided to move to my usual fishing spot where I could try getting bait and a little catfishing (I had brought a rod). The cast net got a little more bait than the other place and after catchin a decent 5+ inch shiner I cut off its tail for blood and cut half way through in two places along the middle. I hooked it on with a little weight and put it out. I quickly decided that it wasn't in deep enough water so I pulled it right out and lobbed it into a deeper section.

After throwing my net for about 15-20 mins I went to check my line and caught a 19 inch channel cat:

I considered keeping the fish but released it (with hook in throat :tounge_out: ). Every so often I keep one to eat. I prefer eating catfish that someone else prepared.
