I just bought a Penn 209 off of ebay. It is one of the red sided ones. Looks to be in great shape. Any suggestions on a good rod for it that is not too much money? Thanks.

All my reels are Penn 309s. Just a little bigger than the 209s. But I have Sturdy Sticks on all mine. The are great rods and only cost just under 20 bucks.

One piece rods are the best choice if you have vehicle that will let you take them with you which I don't have.I have a couple of the Berkley's 2 piece 9'
and a Penn 8 1/2' with Penn's and both do fine.

I use 8' Berkley Glostiks with my Penns. I really like this set up and have had good luck with it.

Ugly Stik cat rods are great for the money. Tough and guaranteed.

i agree i have had good luck with sturdy sticks they have plenty of back bone so that you can put alot off pressure on bigger fish
