On two of my rods I have been using shakespeare tidewater 30L reels and have been very pleased with them but today I decided to get the Shakespeare Tidewater 30LA. It only costs about 5 dollars more than the 30L and has two ball bearings in it instead of one. I took that thing out of the package and played around with it and it sure seems smooth and heavier duty than the 30Ls.

I think I will really be pleased with it in comparison to the 30L

I have one and use it on my boat all the time. Haven't caught any big on it yet, but seems to work great.

the tidewater reels are great boat reels but leave a little to be desired for the bank fisherman that wants to cast a long ways...they are a little bulky but have alot of power when ya want to crank one in around cover...i hope ya have alot of fun with your new toy...good luck

I really enjoy my Tidewater reels and have no trouble casting them for distance. Plenty of power and very durable.
