I've Heard Alot Of Great Remarks About Berkley's E-cat Rods, and I'm Wondering How They Compare W/Jim Moyer's "The Boss" Rods ? Are They Basically The Same Or Are Their Some Big Differences ?

I am lucky enough to have two E-cat #4 rods ( wish I had 6 ). I've used them for flatheads since 1998 or 99. I just used the Boss rods I got for the first time last week. The major differences between them is that the Boss rod has two extra line guides ( eyes ) spread along the rod. E-cat has 7 plus the tip. Boss has 9 plus tip. The tip action on the Boss rod is faster (more limber )than the E-cat. The tip might be fast but it translates quickly into a very heavy backbone and butt section, lots of power for fighting fish over 40lbs. The last thing is they are 20 bucks cheaper than the E-cats were. I would'nt hesitate to recommend them.

Some more info on The BOSS rods. I caught my first fish on them last week The largest was a 41 pound flathead. The rod peformed beatifully, had plenty of backbone and more to spare. I also find that with the more limber tip I can cast my big livebaits farther with less effort than the stiffer Ecats. I can cast a 5 or 6 oz sinker and a 12 inch shad with no problem, even though thats more than they are rated for which is 2 to 4 oz.

Is catfish connection the only place that sells them? Thats where I got mine but I havent seen them any where else. If those were in a store where people could hold one they would sell.

I have one of these rods and it is tough. I have a quantum big cat rod and for actually being a thicker rod it just isnt as tough. Dont get me wrong it is nice and sturdy, but i would prefer the BOSS. I think im going to get 2 more of them, and 2 more 6500 c3's. I can only find them at catfish connection also. so they must have some kind of deal with Jim Moyer.

The ECATS are what i use also, the only problem i had with them, is the ceramic eyelits falling out, had to get like 4 of them replaced, but if something happened and i had to replace the ECAT, i would definanty get THE BOSS rod, my brother has one, and it looks good..He just got it yesterday, so he hasnt gotten to take it out, but im sure they are pretty much the same..I just wonder why they are 20 dollars cheaper the the ECATS..they look exactly the same

You can get them elsewhere. We have a local bait shop that has got them. I don't have one, but have a few friends with them and they are fantastic. I can't wait until I add one to my arsenal.

Kevin, have you had a chance to use your rods yet? Did you like them? I've caught a 36 and a 41lb flathead on mine so far this year and I cannot believe the performance of these rods. I love them.

Our local bait store (Salt fork outdoors) said that they are looking into getting the BOSS rod in stock. So if they do ill let everyone know. I am byased because i shop there, but i think that it is probably the best bait store around this area easy. They have good prices, better than walmart which is hard to beat.

I love my boss rod. My bro has an e cat and they are almost identical. The boss has a more sensitive tip. The only thing I dont like about the Boss rod is the guides. The two larger sizes both have stainless steel guides. They say that braided lines wear groves in stainless steel in a short time. I will just get the guides replaced when that happens. Oh, and it doesnt have a hook keeper. Small gripes but its about the only two things that I have to complaine about.

    Hey Fella's;
I don't mean to be too obnoxious here but for those of you that might not know Catfish Connection is one of our sponsors and we, the BOC, also sponsor them.
They have rods on their website that is kept more up-to-date than their catalog. Still, their free catalog is worth having for a good reference.
Right now, they are having some clearance and after Fathers Day Sales. The last time I looked a couple days ago they had an 8' Shakespeare Ugly Stick Big Water Spinning Rod with a Heavy Action. I have one of those and put my Penn 9500SS on it and loaded it up to 12oz of lead and the rod just flat took it in stride. Of course at that weight you have to have a bit of rhythm/timing with your swing. If memory serves that rod goes for something like $55.00-$60.00 or so plus shipping and all at places like Cabela's and Bass Pro shops. Catfish Connection is selling it for under $40.00 while they last.
They also carry the Berkley Catfish rods in both Bait Casting with a trigger and in Spinning Rods at very competitive prices! They also have the hard to find sizes of hooks and other gear/tackle for going after those "BIGUNN'S" that we all go seek out when we cast our lines.
I've not had any trouble with them and they also have a couple of "Product Specialists" [just like Cabela's does] to help you with your purchases if you need to use them.
My contact there is named; "Stacy" and she will do anything she can to help you with your shopping experience to make sure you get the right stuff the first time. While on the phone with her, ask for the FREE catalog they offer, it's worth having and it's very hard to beat the price!; FREE!
Catfish Connection contact info is as follows:
    http://www.catfishconnection.com
    Phone: 1-800-929-5025
Fax: 1-217-582-4146 and they don't require a fancy cover page either.
I hope this helps you all in some small way with those rods your looking for to meet your needs so that you too can catch new world records! .

Im just wondering are the Boss rods made here in America? Sounds like everybody loves them.I would like to get some before they become extinct like the E-CAT or the Classic Catfish by St. Croix. You never know when you wont be able to get them anymore.

No, the boss rods are made in china, just like the other 90% of rods.
