The last post covered the tube color but what color jig head should use and when and with what color tube. Do you ever use glow in the dark? Thanks

Depends on if you are using a float or not.

    Without a float:

I've been told that when the water is colder (like it is now), that a very small jig head works best... allows the lure to sink more slowly.

Crappie will come up a few feat to take a lure, but rarely go down to get something (so I've been told). Therefore, you don't want the lure sinking too quickly. They are also a bit less aggressive this time of year so a slower retrieve is better.

You can use a larger jig head With a Float since you've already determined depth. I only use a float if the water is choppy enough to give you some action.

I just use plain leadheads. They range from 1/64 to 1/8 ounce range. I am not a great white perch fisherman, but it works for me.

I like to use minnows 90% of the time, but when I do use a jig, I've had the best luck with a yellow head with a red eye, and a chartreus grub. The water I fish is pretty murky, so that may effect bite, and what color to use. I'm no expert, but I have caught my fair share of slabs. Going out Sunday to slay 'em. I'll check back in with the results.

If you must have a painted jighead, I'd go with something of a red color. Pink, red or orange. Kinda makes the bait look wounded.

I mostly fish with the unpainted ones.
