A buddy of mine will be camping at the James River near Natural Bridge, VA. How is the catfishing in that parts of the James??

I've heard it can be good, but don't have firsthand experience. They are probably spawning right now, so it will be tough fishing until July.

I fished in Big Island on the James last fri night. caught several small channels but not even a hit from a flathead. smallmouth should be hiotting good. big island is about 10-12 miles below natural bridge area.

Already the bite is best early early and late afternoon on smallmouths. Plenty of them up there and it sure is pretty water to fish.
