Went out on the James yesterday and had a good day.
Caught some nice cutters (shad) and fished one of my favorite spots which has not produced lately but the spawn is off and the fish are biting again.
My first fish was 58 lb blue on a small piece of shad in open water. As soon as I landed that fish another rod went down. I grabbed the rod from the rod holder and I be darned if he didn't pull that rod out of my hand  (must not of had a good grip on it). I got the rod back  but the fish was gone.
I caught a few small cats then another rod went down hard. I reeled in a 38 lb blue off of cut eel.
I did have a live eel on a bobber that went down hard and when I reeled it in it was a 14" channel cat with a 12" live eel dangling out of the side of his mouth.
I continued to fish and caught several more from a couple of pounds to up in the twenties but no more monsters.
All in all, a much better day than I have had since the spawn started up. (Of course anyday fishing is better than the best day at work.)
Get out there and CPR you some big ones.
    Mike

Thought I would load the pics of the fish I caught. The quality of the pics aren't the best (took them with my cell phone). I was fishing alone but did the best I could.
Its crazy that I caught that small channel cat on that eel which was only a couple inches smaller than he was.
The blues were beat up from the spawn and skinny.
