I launched a kayak at Hugenot put-in Saturday afternoon and fished until dark. I caught one flathead around 5 lbs in 13 ft. of water and had a couple bites. Seems like it is still a bit early for flatheads. It was my first time here and I didn't realize that the park closed at sunset. Is there any other place to launch without the restrictions? I've been in Virginia less than a year and still pretty new to flathead fishing. If you guys have any suggestions, I'd appreciate them. I fish out of a kayak and I use bluegills for bait. Man it got cold out there yesterday!

Went again yesterday. The river was high and muddy. I caught 2 blue catfish (on cut bait) and one channel all in deep water 15+ feet. I caught one flathead in 4-6 ft of water and had numerous strikes...the flatheads were feeding in relatively shallow water.
