    Crazy,

Have you heard anything about Parkville acquiring more land and building a new ramp? Wouldn't that be a blessing?!?

All they really need to do is fix / maintain the one they have. I read a story awhile back that said the master plan was to extend the hike/bike trails downstream to Riverside and upstream to the 435 bridge. That may mean more land, but they just don't seem that interested in providing river access.

I see big deck boats out there all the time in the warm summer evenings, launching from the club, so it must be in somewhat better shape than the English Landing ramp. I'd pay the fees too if there were no other strings attached for use of a secure and maintained ramp.

Terry I keep meaning to attend the monthly city counsel meeting. Maybe we should go an address the issue. Man it would be heck of a lot closer for me.

Thanks to all who responded. Gary - you made some good points. I too would pay their fees to use their facilities. Just don't want the strings attached. Crazy - I'm game on attending a city council meeting. I've been there and done that before. Just let me know when and where! It would be a lot closer to me as well.

The Parkville ramp is really nice if your boat trailer has 35 inch tires and you drive a tank. Surelly they will do something to upgrade it in the near future.

Just curious where do you K.C. guys generally launch? I mainly go out at Schimmel and sometimes Leavenworth. I have never put in at Kaw point, where is it located? Im not real crazy about driving throug the getto with a redneck boat, let alone at 3 am.

Scott, I put in at Schimmel City and Leavenworth as well. Kaw Point is down in the Fair Fax District, KCKS. It is a nice area - but the ramp is really long. I think that there is going to be several tournies based out of Kaw Point this year. Been thinking about volunteering my services to help on one of them. Another place to put in is off of front street back behind the Sears Outlet Service Center. I don't remember the name of the public use area. It's almost directly across the river from the old Sam's Town Casino. I've driven down there several time and it looks like a really good facility. My only caution about this area is that I have talked with several people that have had their vehicles broken into while they were out on the water. However, that could happen anywhere

Terry, how do you get to the ramp after you cross the fairfax bridge? I plan to fish some of the tournys out of there this year, and would like to pre fish that area. Its a little out of my normal stompin waters.

Hang your first left after you cross the Fairfax bridge. Go all the way to the first traffic light then turn right. Take that all the way to the exit for I-70. The ramp entrance will be on your left. It looks just like a semi parking lot but they do have a sign just kind of hard to read it. The entrance is back behind all the trucks. The entrance I guess you could say is across the street from the grain elevator also. The Leavenworth ramp is a bit rough and uneven too. I'll probably never use that one again. Pain with a big boat and it has a nice ledge you drop off of when the water is low. Lot of good water up around there though.

Crazy gave you some good directions on how to get to the ramp. When you get to the grain elevators (on your right) you need to turn left into the parking lot where all the trucks are parked. Go as far to the east as you can (along the levea (sp)) and then head south. There is a cut between concrete walls that will allow you to access the ramp and park area. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Sound like you got some good directions to the Kaw ramp. Theres some good waters around there. One thing nobody said is be prepared for a safty check (as you should be anyway) It seems everytime I launch there which is alot over the summer Kansas park rangers??? are there to check equipment, which i dont mind. Anyway good luck, and dont attempt parkville if you dont have a trailer with big tires and a 4x4, plus if you lauch at parkville you have to have a permit obtained at the police station to be there after midnight. Wherever you launch be safe and have fun.

    FYI -

I emailed Kathy Dusenbery, mayor of Parkville, inquiring about the new boat ramp in Parkville. This is what I got back --

    "Lincoln:
My name is Deborah Hammond and I am answering your email of today. Yes, there is going to be a new boat ramp. The City is currently working with the State of Missouri so we do not have a projected date for completion, however we will keep you posted. If you have any other questions please give me a call at 741-7676.
    Deb Hammond"

Way to go Lincoln! Thanks for doing the leg work. A new ramp would be a welcome addition to English Landing park. I wonder if they are going to rebuild the old one or put in a new one? It would be good to have a start and completion date. Keep us posted it you learn anything else. Thanks

They might as well start new. The location they have it in now is a bad spot. The sand likes to build up and form a sand hump from the creek washing in right there. They either need to move it down stream a little bit or above the creek. My guess is though there going to keep it right there and the ramp is still going to have a it's issue with the sand.

I just called and talked to Deb Hammon at the number she left in her reply.
She said the new ramp will be at the end of main street by the ball parks. There will be a restroom and lots of new parking.

Right there at the end of Main Street might not be to bad. It would be above the old ramp and in a spot where the Police could keep and eye on the vehicles and trailers parked there, which may help stop some of the mischief that goes on in other areas. I really hope that they put the ramp at an angle to the river and not perpendicular to it. Maybe we can get a look at the plans and offer suggestions. What do you think?

Now that will work! I sugest they make that bad boy like the one off of front street. It don't have to be at a real hard angle but an angle would be good. But yeah if they need any info or maybe some help I might be willing to help! As I'm sure some of you are too.
