our little city has a 6 page mini paper we get each month
looks like a small church bulliten
it lets us know things going on in our community mainly and
has the usual hodge podge of local business ads throughout it
well i read most of it and this month i am informed that we have paid for a
new york architectural design firm that makes playgrounds to send one of their artists/designers to come here to a local school and listen to students input on what would be cool to have in a playground
then he will design a rendition of a playground incoorperating these ideas into the layout that he will later in the day present to the public?
    or park and school personel.
he will then go back to new york and we will be rounding up volunteers to build this playground with donations and volunteer work under the supervision of several of this firms personel.
now to my subject line question.
is it just me or can they not find someone more locally .
we are 15-20 minutes east of st.louis mo.
there isnt people more closer to home that they could have found?
why i ask this is because in this same issue of our town bulliten
there is a little side note that is encourageing residents of our town to spend money shopping in our town so we reap the tax revenue.
WOW talk about doing as i say and not as i do.
small government is just as bad as big government .
i will be writeing them about this tonight.

Small government is worse sometimes. Better start attending your city council meetings, and school board meetings, or better yet run for office of alderman, or school board. Why take donations? The school probably got a huge grant to upgrade the playground anyway. Sounds like a big fluffy plan to make everyone happy, but way more expensive than necessary. Shouldn't local contractors get a chance to bid on the project just as they would if they were replacing a roof, or flooring the gym?

You would be suprised how much influence the public has on their meetings when they have people looking over their shoulder every time the have a discussion. I pick and choose my topics, but try to keep an eye on what they are doing as much as possible. Too bad if they don't like it. That's why everything they do is public domain. My dog thanks me every day for keeping them in line. Otherwise she would be dead due to being born a "vicious" breed. They all want to make a difference, good or illconcieved. Bring it up publicly, and make them explain why local contractors are being cut out of the deal. That does reek of "I have a friend in NYC that builds beautiful playgrounds".

Hard saying, but looks to me that the firm they are wanting to use Specialize in community built parks. Breezing through their website, they coordinate the design and Build with all the volunteers... They say they got over 30 years doing it with over 1600 projects done.. I would imagine they got picked for they expertise...

tim i see your point as i read that part about their expertise in this
but i'm still shakeing my head at the blatant oversight of putting the keep the money here in your community speech in the same breath with this
    play ground plan.
and if you think about it how elaborate does something like this have to be?
its a playground for goodness sake .
does our kids need such a state of the art never seen before new fangled
device to crawl and play on?
i'm all for them makeing a nice playground ,but this seems overboard
i dont think it would be that hard to look at some of their other designs and pick and choose different aspects and make a completely differant one with allready used ideas .
to me its just another way to blow money .
