Has anyone been on the Iowa River lately, about Wapello area and down river to the mouth. Going out tomorrow and wondering if it would be worth a trip up into it from the Ole Miss. Wanna chase channels and flats. Thanks in advance for any help!

My wife and I took a drive over toward Oakville friday evening.
WOW the devistation in that area is incredible.
    Oakville is a ghost town.
Homes are washed off their foundations. One houses garage has someones shed crammed inside the garage door.
Another house has what looks like a mote around it.
The parking lot across the street from the bar, used to be the White Elephant, has a huge hole, big enough for a small house, in it.
Main street homes had around 6 feet of water in them.
I believe every house in that town has major damage.

Outside town looks like a desert.
Sand as far as you can see in places.

We drove up the K road and took the Elrick- Wapello road along the river.
That river is just a few feet below flood level.
I've fished the Iowa but I wouldn't know where to start fishing it when its that high.

    Best of luck
if you find a good place to fish lemme know

I fished the Iowa between Marshalltown and Tama tonight. There is minor flooding going on right now. It appears that about 2 more feet will put it out of its banks.

They got quite a bit of rain north of Ames on Thursday and those storms tonight didn't help any.

I know where your talking about but haven't heard any reports. The Channels are hitting cut and stink on the Iowa up from Columbus Jct.
If you just fish the mouth of the Iowa where your talking, should be good. Usually a hot spot.

I had always done well fishing the iowa river bridge just north of wapello on 61. Fish the south side of the river on the eastside of the bridge. You can walk right down to the river there and is always good for some cats.

    Thanks. I've never fished there.
My father in law lived along the river above Elrick when he was a kid.
Most of my Iowa river fishing has been from Wapello down river and at Oakville.
The Iowa is a strange river to boat.
    Constantly changing.
Deep water one day. sand the next.
    have a good one
