outstanding. Glad to see them back around these parts. I found some prints over in my parts last fall that were undeniable as well. traditionally believed there are none around anymore but thats obviously changing.
They are around, generally avoid human contact tho so not noticed. I don't know much about em, if they stay in an area or just move thru and go somewhere else. I figure no one will mind till they eat farmer's stock. Then farmers will be upset, after feedin all that expensive feed the animal is gone.
ya i have not yet confirmed wether this was a hoax or the real deal. i looked on google at tons of cougar trail cam pics and didnt see this one. so maybe its legit. usually when i see a pic and do a search if its fake it pops up in a few places. so far this seems to be real. i have mixed feelings. though i like to see species improve this is a dangerous animal. ill surely be carrying a side arm while small game hunting now anyway. were seeing a lot of eagles round here too. see one in peoria while eating lunch at work the other day. alot of them along the illinois river.
my neighbor e-mailed this to me last night. a younger guy here in town was supposed to have captured this pic just a few miles from town. and it does fit since were surrounded by fields.
Great pic, Jerm, that is a cougar no doubt. I've never seen one in the wild but I know someone who is pretty reliable who says there's one within 10 miles or so from here. On her job she has access to some Dept. of Energy highly restricted property and says there's at least one there.
hae seen several in my area even tho the ar game and fish say they aint none.havent got a shot at one yet but they make the best salami and summer sausage you will ever taste.
Mountain lions are a deer hunters worst enemy. You might think its cool that they are there now, But just wait till theres a sizable population of them , your deer hunting will go south in a handbasket. A mature cougar kills 1 deer per week to survive, a momma will kill more often, and If you have several in an area that adds up to a bunch of deer. I just moved from an area in North Eastern New Mexico where it was common to see a cat toilet in your driveway in the morning the size of a dinner plate, and our deer heards are almost non existant now.
I have them come onto my land, have found the tracks as well as the remains of their meal. My neighbor across the lake has actually seen them. Makes for a very uncomfortable predawn walk to the deerstand.
ya i got mixed feelings about this. kind of cool to see but im not sure i like the idea of a population. in the illinois section i posted it as well. and a fella just a few miles north west of me says he seen one this year too north if us. so there already might be more than we know about. and this summers drought may very well had them on the move looking for water. the sighting north of me was along the creek.
so far the story has checked out. and have been researching sightings and found a few not to far from here. the climates warming. so nothing suprises me anymore.
Yep, sure looks like a Cougar to me . I wouldn't worry to much about getting to many .
