I fished at my brother in law's pond yesterday. I picked up a 6lb channel, just right for eating, and took it home to clean. There was a large hard mass in its stomach. To my amazement, it was an apple. I've noticed the wild apple tree that drops stunted yellow apples into the pond before. They float to the bank all the time. I just never imagined a channel cat would eat one.

I wonder what exactly that fish thought it was eating when it downed that apple?:confused2: I guess that channels are just as voracious as the other big cats?

That is interesting...I've never heard of such a thing. They also eat wild grapes. When the scuppernongs are ripe and falling in the river, you can catch a good mess of em under the grape vines. They'll be full of those little grapes.

I can just imagine the look on my buddy's face if we go out and I throw an apple on my hook! He'd proabably lose all faith in me right there on the spot:smile2:.

When fishing an old river lake we kept seeing catfish in a shallow water area. Come to find out they were there eating the persimmons that were falling in the water.
