Subject: The end of aFfighting Lady

These are difficult photos to look at! I was on board the USS Ranger (CVA-61) in the Gulf of Tonkin during mid 60's, and our aircraft conducted bombing raids of North Vietnam alonside those from this gallant lady.

    Why was it sunk?

Would have made a perfect fishing base with a lick of paint and a few mod cons.

This was also the ship that the movie 'Bridges at Toko Ri' was filmed on.

Great pics Darryl, thanks for sharing.

I like the way they set a boat on it to float away after it was sank. Kinda dangerous if you ask me, never know which way it would go down.

The coast of Virginia is full of those old war ships. Makes for some great fishing and diving. There is one that went down during the war that still has tanks, jeeps, artillary, and all kinds of stuff on it. We fish for Sea Bass and Tautaug out there.

How would you liked to have been in the small boat? Those are neat pictures.

Darryl, I can only imagine what that must feel like for ya bro. I served on the Belleau Wood and it was decommisioned last year. i guess in the long run, it is being put to good use. Still though, I know what ya mean...kinda like the feeling I get when I imagine all those cool aircraft sittin out here in the desert at the aircraft graveyard at Davis Mothan Air Base.

Dang, they done gone and put something else for me to get hung up on in the water. In the middle of the ocean, I promise I could get hung up. Thanks for sharing the pics. That was cool.
