I did that and had one split. I made them into an A frame and they lay on top on the ground and work great!!
Inexpensive bank rod holders
Some of you have probably seen these but I thought I would post about them any ways.
Take a section of 2" PVC cut it about 3-4' long then measure to them middle and make a 45 degree mitre cut. You get 2 holders per section. Then just drive them into the ground. They seems to work great except in gravely areas.
