for soft shell turtle!! Hehe! Seriously, drpepper did pull in a monster softshell in the wee hours of the morning. 30+#. Again, the catfish bite was off due to the spawn, funky weather, and unstable river level. However, we did have a GREAT time and caught a few nice fish. You folks really have a pair of gems in drpepper and his dad pepsi. Both are as tough as nails, and great fishermen. It was indeed our pleasure to host these fine folks for a few rounds sparring with Mr. Whiskers. They are welcome here anytime, and hopefully next time we can schedule our rendevous during a "hot" period of fishin'! Here are a few pics.

I knew from the moment I spoke with those guys that they would fit in with your tactics, Bill. The weather has really been a hindrance the past week or more, but you all continue to hang in there. Congrats to the three of you! :smile2:

Dang dude, that is one huge-azz softshell!

Them things are just as mean as the snappers.:cool2:

  8. I caught one that same size a couple of weeks ago too. they fight pretty good. It kinda pulls like a flathead thats not quite sure he's hooked yet.
i was trying to get a look to see what it was and saw the brown/ yellow back and was sure it was a flathead when it took off w/ drag for
a while . Man was i disapointed when i finnally got it to the boat.
I took it home to the dock and my daughter loved it. we finally let go back to the lake.

I was deeply saddened that we had to leave the hook in it's mouth. He/she took the bait so good, I couldn't even see the shank of the hook in it's mouth, to try to remove it. I hope this magnificent creature survives, but I have my doubts with an 8.0 Gamakatsu octopus circle inside him. :sad2:

Man fellers... what a good time it was! Those SC folks are really, really good people!
I'm going Back to the Santee here pretty soon after the blues are done with the spawn and jumping back on the boat with James Matherly (rivercatsc)
It can be done on a 3 day weekend with ease.
