ignition

    79 70hp. when try to start would not energize solenoid , it would click, but not energize. replaced same probliem. will lite test lite. starter works if you jump across. have not checked to see if is true 12 v. replaced solenoid now same prob. any suggestions. motor has not ran in 2-3 years but will start up on starting fluid. but need help on starter. thanks bubba. evunrude

    First thing loose that can of starting fluid. Mix you some gas and oil in a squirt bottle. If it hasn't been run in 3 years I would say you have some corroded connections that need cleaning. Sometimes you can tap the starter with a small hammer at the same time you try to start and it will let the starter engage. But check for voltage at the small terminal when it is clicking and if while cranking it drops below 9 volts the solenoid is bad.

    lost it thank u dont think it is sil. i put new one on same prob. am going to batt. and burnish all connections to motor, compleate circut. thanks.
