Wooley Bugger, definately a Wooley Bugger. Though here in Arkansas if your trout fishing often times a sowbug is all they will hit, a Wooley Bugger will catch anything. I once caught a channel cat on one in the Illinois river near Talaquah, Ok while smallmouth fishing.

No question the Clouser and Wooley Buggers are top notch but if your looking at the most species to be caught, Id certainly never overlook the smaller flies like a Hares Ear or a Pheasant Tail, since Ive taken many bass, carp and even Saugeyes and cats on them!

Fly covers a lot of territory. If I had to feed myself it would be a Wooly Worm or Booger, but equally effective would be a Gold Ribbed Hares Ear nymph in various sizes, and a Streamer like a Matuka. For the West it would be the GRHE,Everywhere the WW,WB,and for salt water some kind of silver mylar streamer.:smile2:

If I had to be accompanied by a fly for the rest of my life. I'd be sure and carry a fly swatter with me. And that poor sucker'd be in for it if he got within arm's reach. I hate flys. :cool2:

I've fly rodded since I was a kid. Bout all I fly fish for nowadays is panfish/bass. My pick is what they call up here the popeye. It's a mini jig about 1/64 oz, similar to a lead head streamer. Tip it with wax worms or pork rind and it's deadly.

Older post but just read it. If I had only one fly I'd say Muddler Minnow. I've caught a variety of fish from bream to pike on them......

I hate to say it -but- go to wallyworld and get a pac of those little black spiders cut about a third of the lenth of the legs off and you can catch almost anythng that swims in fresh water .Sink them with a small split shot and the trout in the Beaverkill gobbled them up ,bream ,bass ,gar mudfish almost anything .I have tied my own flys for years but They are still in my box.
