just wondering what everyone thinks is the best bait for channels i prefer cut blue gills. its all i ever use but i dont know if i am missing out on some fish, the river i fish has no shad in it. just gills crappie and chubs rock bass and smallies. ive had no luck with those stink baits what so ever. only arificial bait that caught fish was the old strike king catalpa worms that bill dance sold and they didnt realy work so hot. any imput would be appreciated

Were not allowed to use blue gills here in Minnesota, so I would have to choose between chicken livers or night crawlers. I think it would be night crawlers cause it seems they hit on them all year round. Livers is more seasonal, spring and fall.

For eaters, I like stink bait during the summer. For larger channels, I prefer cut bluegill or shad.

Mickey, those stink baits never worked for me either. For eaters nightcrawlers and for bigger channels cut gills or skips work for me.:cool2:

you should try minnows, try them live and then when they die just cut the tail off and use the rest. That and cut eel works best for me when targeting channels.

I used to use chicken liver a bunch. This year a made the switch to shad (mostly threadfin) and have not been disappointed and ain't lookin' back. It'll take a lot of convincing for someone to get me off of that bait:wink:.

I like bream or bluegill. Where I fish you cant eat them so I just use big baits for big fish.

here in omaha, i use nitecrawlers and liver. they seem to work alot better than any of those stinkbaits. bluegill and chubs are used for the bigger fish.:0a23:

If I could only use one bait----I'd probably quit fishin'. Choosing the HOT bait (and arguing about it) is one of the major draws for me.But then, I'm not the sharpest hook in the box.
