Wind wasn't too bad last night, was actually quite calm

Went to a spot Mr. Jim told me about, got there at about 7pm and set out 4 rods and my buddy had the first run within an hour, missed it, spit hook

Next run came for me in another hour, fish took off, as soon as I set the hook the fish changed direction and charged towards me and missed it, had no runs for the next hour

Went to a different spot, rods in water by 11pm, once again, first run came in at midnight, friends dad missed it, next run came in 15 mins later for my brother, also missed it, 4 more runs came every 15 mins for the next hour, friends dad finally landed his first flathead that weighed in at 6.5lbs

Had another run within 30 mins, missed it, run came in for me at about 1am, hooked it and landed it, 5.5lbs

No runs for a while, next and last run came in at about 4am for my buds dad, landed it, weighed in at 8.5lbs

No more runs for the rest of the night

Very light wind was had last night, 3-8mph, was chilly as heck but bearable

Realized that the moon does have an effect on the fish, from 9pm to 10pm, the moon was hitting the water and fish activity was VERY minimal, changed spot, but moon was still hitting water, as soon as 12am came by, moon shine was not in water anymore and the runs started coming in steadily then really got crazy for the next hour

Jim, I loved that spot, very big and roomy, just wish I would have had more patience and stayed there the entire night, I know that for sure I will hit that spot up next time I go

Thanks Richard, I Knew You Would Like That Spot. At Least You Guys Had Alot
Of Hits. When That Clicker Is Going Off All The Time It Sure Makes The Night
Fly By. I Hope Your Freinds Had a Good Time. Just Tell Them That They Have To
Pay Their Dues, And When They Do Finally Catch A Quality Fish, They Will Have
Earned It. I'm Going To Make a Run Next Week, I'll Post A Report.......See Ya

Only 2 runs we had there in 2 hours were on the right side where the water comes into the river through some underground pipe or something

Nice deep holes, 6-9ft I think it was

Dropped a bait IN the dry tree on the left but had nothing pick it up

One Time While Fishing That Spot Over 10 Years Ago, I Had Run Out Of Bait
And The Only Thing I Had Left Was A 3lb. Carp. I Thought About Using It For
Cut Bait, But It Was Already About 2am. I Was Tired, So I Put It On A 10/0
And Cast It Out. The Carp Was Alive But Far From Lively. About An Hour
Later It Got Picked Up, I Gave The Fish Plenty Of Time To Chow Down And Then
I Gave Him The Hardware. About Half Way Into My Hookset The Rod Stopped Dead.

Not Only Was This Fish Taking Line, He Was Taking It With Authority. I Have Caught
6 Cats Over 40lbs. And This One Had A Different Feel To It. About 10 Seconds Into
His Initial Run, He Came Unhooked. I've Been Thinking About That One For Awhile.

I just realized an error of mine

As soon as the clicker starts screaming, I grab the rod and as soon as I do, I go on to set the hook and most of the time, I missed them and have my bait all messed up...

I did try something different last night, clicker screamed, I grabbed the rod, gave it some slack, locked up the reel and felt the tension on the line getting stronger, as soon as I could feel the fish pulling a bit, I slammed him and had a perfect hook set

Think I'll start letting them run longer now before slamming them

Make No Mistake, Fishing With Big Live Baits In Current Is Difficult. We Are Not Going To
Hook And Land Every Hit We Get. Keep In Mind That When The Clicker Is Going Off,
He Could Be Swimming Anywhere. If He Is Swimming Towards You, There Will Be Alot Of Slack Line In the Water And Therefore No Power On The Hookset. This Might Explain Why Some Of Your Baits Are Coming Back Messed Up. If You Are Not Getting The Hook Out Of The Bait, Then There Is No Pop To The Hookset. What I Do Is, When I Get to The Rod He Has Already Had The Bait For A Few Seconds, I'll Drop The Tip And Right Before The Line Comes Tight I'll Let Him Have It. When I Set I Also Walk Away From The Water To Help Take Up Any Extra Slack. I Use 9 Foot Rods And They Move Alot Of Line
During The Hookset Also.

You fish in the main current?

I've got 8ft, 7.5ft and 7ft rods

Sometimes when I slam them, I hook them but they come loose somehow
Exactly My Point, When You Feel Line Going Out It Feels Like He Is Swimming Away From You. In Some Instances, That Is The Case. Thats When You Set And Your Line Comes Taut Quickly And You Have A Solid Hookset. But Sometimes When The Clicker Is Going Off, The Fish Is Moving Sideways Or Worse, Back Towards You. In This Case When You Set The Hook You Are Pulling All The Slack up And One Of Two Things Will Happen. You Will Either Hook The Fish Weakly And He'll Shake The Hook Loose, Or You Won't Hook Him At All And During The Hookset Process You Have Pulled The Sinker Off The Bottom, Taken Up Some Of That Slack And Now The Cat Feels The Sinker As well As The Tighter Line. Once This happens, He'll Drop The Bait. The Other Thing You Can Do Is When You Get To The Rod, Drop The Tip, Put It In Gear And Slowly Reel In Some Of The Slack, When You Feel The Line Start To Tighten At All, Let Him Have It.
