how are some of the OKUMA products ???????

im asking becasue i called shakespeare service and repair and got into an argument with a manager ( he had a hard time understanding english) "thats the nice way to say it ":confused2: about one of my reels i just bought...... aparently taking the prespooled line off of the reel avoids the warrently :eek:oooh: i just bought a reel that had the anti reverse bearing crack so it was in constant free motion :sad2: the reel felt awsome but thats something i would like to have on a reel:roll_eyes:

the warranty thing isnt why im asking about a different company... the manager ( who sounded like abu from the simspons ):smile2: actually said " maby you should avoid our products in the future if you dont know how to use them " so not only did that insult me but i think i might find another company to take my business to

the okuma im thinking of is OKUMA METALLIX 7ft SPINNING COMBO

its under okuma combos in cat fish connection...

I got some OKuma spinning reels on a few bass rods. Love the rear drag and have nothing but good to say about them. If i buy another, it will be Okuma.

I'm sorry but any company that told me that taking the prespooled line off the reel would void the warranty for that reel would lose me as a customer, permanently.

On the plus side, I've been doing a lot of looking at new rods/reels and combo's. Okuma's consistently keep coming up as being a good quality product for a reasonable price.

If you do try that one Sleekcraft let us know how it works out for you.

i dont really like to buy a reel and rod seperatly cause i like my stuff to match  (i have no clue why:big_smile:)

that combo i posted holds 170 yds of 20 lb line and its $20 along with some smaller poles that id use for my bass rigs

really!!!!!!!! for $20 its bigger than the tiger combo that i love!!!

ive always thought okuma was a good company but thought they were really expensive

i think im going to give them a try !!!!!!!

and from what most have said they are pretty good company so it sounds like a win win situation!!!!!!!! im going to do a little more research though

That's pretty crappy customer service. Just a thought, but maybe the language barrier had a little to do with it. You didn't say which reel it was,but if it was the tiger it may not be worth the shipping cost to warranty it. I have used the warranty on an ugly stik before with absolutely no trouble. I may be wrong though. If shipping costs $7.50 each way, thats $15. $5 more and you could buy another tiger combo. However, telling a customer to avoid a product, that's just stupid. Hopefully it was the language barrier and not a reflection of the shakespeare brand.

Not sure if I've ever bought a "combo" rig.. I get reels, and I get rods, from all kinds of sources. I have 2 old Daiwa spinning reels, a 7000 and a 9000 series and they are the studhorse spinning units I go to.. for baitcasting, I use a couple of Cabelas DMG's, a 20 and 45, trolling reels, seem to work real good, also, Abu Garcia 6500, and Daiwa Millionaire 300, mmm, nice stuff, I have ugly sticks, whuppin sticks, and eagle claw trolling rods,,, 7-9' long.
you can easily match your reels and line to the poles, as the poles have the info written on them usually, regarding line weight, etc,
My spinning rods, are an Inshore 7' for the 7000 unit, I run 30 lb mono, and the 9000 Spiinning unit i use an 11' surf rod, 30 lb mono, and use it for drifting down the rivers etc,,
I also have a "retirement" wall in my garage for tackle that's gets,,,killed.
Rods, reels, all kinds of stuff up there, ,, to me just part of "doin' business"
But, if a customer service rep asked me to not use any of their product, I'd more'n likely agree w/ them:wink:

I used to use shakespere reels, I have also used okuma.

Okuma wins hands down for sure...you can get a good okuma spinning reel for 50 bucks, so they are cheap.

dont matter what ya buy. warrenties are all in india. get used to it. just bought a new water heater. old one had a 6 year warrenty. it was 3 years old. but dealing with pakastan, trying to under stand him and waiting for parts in mail made me relize. they do whatever it takes to screw the consumer and prolong the fix unitll we just relize to buy a new one is easier. i just bought a new one. at least this one. i know isnt covered unless i go to foriegn language school. weve sold out. america. we stink.

90% of us companies hire or use over seas telemarketers to run the tech service. if ya want to speak to the owner of the quickymart on the simpsons call this toll free # 1-800-not- usa!. or buy from a local mom and pop with in house repairamn. the $200 extra. trust me. will be well worth it. you cant egg a store thats over seas. buy american. and ask about there warrenty and WHO in what COUNRTY will fix them.

I had a sturdy stick break on me... called shakespear, got an english speaking rep, 2 mins later I was off the phone with all I needed to get a new one... sent them a strongly worded letter about who they let represent their brand... long story... and all I got was a rod in the mail...

satisfied my immediate needs, but I too think I am taking my business elsewhere...

sleek. get used to it buddie. unfourtunatly. any 1 800, 888, 900, ect. are all based on a tele board in india. americas companies were almost 90% sellouts to forign slave labor. unless you send it to me or another b.o.c. member to fix it its goning to ariabia and you'lll be lost in translation.

I've got 2 Okuma reels and absolutely love them. One is the biggest spinning reel I've ever owned that holds 330 yrds of 30lb mono or 500yrds of 20 lb.It also has a bait feeder built in and is sweet. It cost 49.95 from the connection.ABF90
The baitcaster holds the same amount of line and cost 30 something. Plus sh&hndg. Good reels for good price.

IM DOING ALOT OF RESEARCH ON THE METALIC COMBOS AND ALSO CHECKING OUT SOME ODD BALL SET UPS THAT SOME STRIPER FISHERMAN USE.....

IM READING ABOUT A GUY WHO USES MEDIUM ACTION RODS BUT WILL USE 50 LB BRAID ITS REALLY NEAT CASUE THE SETUP IS SO NIMBLE BUT THE GUY IS AN EXELENT FISHERMAN.......( ITS REALLY COOL CASUE HE ONLY USES LIVE BAIT AND HAS A SETUP LIKE WERE MAKING OUR BOAT INTO):smile2:

I DID THAT WHEN I DID SOME CARPING OVER THE SUMMER.... I USED 30 LB BRAID BUT I HAD MY DRAG BACKED OFF LIKE I WAS USING 6-10 LB BRAID...... WHEN THE FISH GOT TOO CLOSE TO THE PASSING BOAT THE REEL GOT TIGHTENED DOWN AND THE HOGGING STARTED.....
