I have learned so much since I joined the BOC. I have learned a lot about
fishing and hunting but mostly I have learned about people. In 1975 I
was camping with my family on Lake Guntersville on the Tennessee River.
I went to buy ice in the boat. There was a man at the marina that had
about 20 nice bluegills on ice and had decided that he did not want them
and tried to give them to me. I did not need them, I had been jug fishing
for several days and had plenty of catfish fillets on ice. The man said if
no one wanted them he was going to throw them away. I can't stand to
see fish wasted so I took the bluegills. I put them in an ice bag and set
them in the corner of my fish cooler.
Later that day a nice family with a pop-up camper set up beside us. I
helped him get backed in and showed them where the bathhouses were.
I learned they were from Ohio and were going to Florida and camping each
night in a different state park. The man and his wife were talking how
beautiful the water was and how nice it would be to have a fish fry but
they have no fish. I told them thats no problem I have fish and would be
glad to give them the fish for their fish fry. The man offered to buy the
fish but I told him no-way its my treat and I hope they enjoy them.
The man and I went down to where I had my fish and his wife and kids
followed. I opened the ice chest and started putting catfish fillets in his
dish pan. He asked what kind of fish are these and I told him catfish. His
wife and kids said ugh ugh no way. The man said catfish are scavengers
and live in the sewer and they do not eat catfish. I told him I had the blue-
gills and he took them even though they had to be dressed.
That planted a seed with me. I thought a man would take undressed
bluegills over catfish fillets. Well he will have a tell when he gets home.
At least I had on my shoes and my wife has all her teeth and is not my
    fist cousin.LOL
I have thought for 35 years that catfish was a southern thing and the
rest of the country kind of chuckled at us.
But Thanks to the BOC I have learned there are people just like me all
over the country. People that share my conservative views on God and
Country. People who work hard and do not expect no one to give them
anything but the hair on the back of their neck stands up when at the
thought of some one trying to take something away. People who believe
in prayer for their sick and for our soldiers in harms way.
Thank You BOC and BOC members.

I'm with ya members. I have learned alot too from just reading the informative posts and just general things about the members!!

Ah Heck! Yes! I hate seeing fish go to waste to! Yeah those Bluegills would of been great eating or used for bait too. To each their own. Yeah.. Some people have the mentality about Catfish. Scavengers, crap eaters, just plain dirty fish. Well their wrong. Heck, look at Walleye and some of the other fish that feed on the bottom sometimes.

Catfish are great eating fish period. I tried Flathead Catfish for the first time awhile back. I was blown away on how good it tasted!! Better than Walleye? Yes in my book. Crappie? Right up there too. Anybody that turns down Catfish, has never had it prepared right or had never tried it before!!

    Oh Well! :wink::cool2:

    Great Post. Reps to ya.

Whenever i have free time, I check the new posts on the BOC. When I get in the truck on the way to work, I log on and check the new posts on the BOC. When I get to work I do the same. Several times throughout the day I again check for new posts. When I head home I bet you can guess what I do. While I'm watching TV and before I go to bed I'm checking new posts and responding.... I think i'm addicted. Thank you BOC Family, thank you for allowing me to learn and thank you for your friendships...

    Great post Poppa!

    I feel the same way.

Its a shame that these types of threads never get the circulation or response they deserve.

The BOC means different things to different people, "lead generation, sales, strictly knowledge collection, etc etc"...

For many of us, you hit the mark..

I remember my todler years of having no bathroom, it was outside, no running water, it was a hand pump outside, wood stove for heat, but guess what we had for dinner, Yep, catfish. And those were the days.
