Went out fishing all night long this past Thursday night w/ Motopro.... when we had a break in the weather. Nothing to show for an all nighter!

I think someone would be hard pressed to convince to fish on a rise again! Maybe on a slight rise, because this was nutz.

I took these pictures as we started up the Missouri and after we reached the ramp. That water was 'rippin' at the boat ramp. I had to gun it to avoid a large tree and slither my way in between debris. Holy S***!

We had to use 5 lb lead sinkers to keep the bait on the bottom! ha ha. I don't think I will be doing that again anytime soon. I suppose I should earn a stripe for our attempt, and time on the water! Whew!!

This was the Columbia Bottoms ramp.... I am sure it is worse by now.

My uncle and I went down to the warm water discharge in Alton and we caught a couple of eaters. They were all blues. He caught one that was 5 1/2lbs. Caught all the fish on night crawlers. Only had two little bites on skipjack. It was the best fishing trip I have had this year because I actually caught a catfish. It was only 3 1/2 lbs but it was great to put a few in the freezer. I'm going to eat a drum my uncle caught one that was 10 lbs. Hope fully it taste okay. We'll see.

Dan,

I had cabin fever really bad! Since we're about to run into June (spawning), I thought I'd get in some fishing, since I've been working on the boat the last 3 months.

Actually believe it or not, the Mississippi wasn't so bad. But, as soon as we started up the Missouri, holy smokes! I about crapped my pants! I never saw so much debris in my life.....and it was rollin!!

I am gearing up my rods for a trip on Table Rock this next weekend. I am going to try for some Flatties. I'll be down near Roaring River at Eagle Rock. I think I'll try "Slip Floating" in some timber for some Flatheads. Also plan to set out a few limb lines, which my twin brother likes to do. But I must say, I hate limb lines......and prefer to catch my fish on rod & reel.

The rise has a lot of followers. What do you guys think can be done to avoid problems with high water? I have heard that "up creek arms", "below flooded islands", and "fields" can work. The Missi is a battle up here and I have not had much luck either. Hannibal Mike

I love fishing when it's rising up here on Pool 19.. Fast or slow, doesn't matter the fish feed like crazy! What I usually do is fish shallow water. Ive caught a ton of fish in peoples yards, baseball diamonds, corn fields, etc. It's also nice because you can get back into sloughs or up into little lakes in the islands and fish dead water. Lots of fun.

Hope you do better next time!

What Dennis, you didn't believe my post at Gateway Cats about what the Missouri would be like at CB....lmao. But I do understand, sometime is more about pitting one's self against the elements just to prove it can be done. Your still alive so you are now promoted to seaman first class(one stripe)......lol. You did fine.

Back waters, sloughs, feeder creeks and flooded islands have worked for me. Main channel, unless your drift fishing forget it, if you anchor you'll be putting yourself in harms way. You won't catch many large cats but I can tell you from first hand experience that a lot of channels and smaller flats will move into flooded waters to feed. The biggest challenge will be finding someplace to launch.

We put out the effort for sure! I was almost 90% sure we would get something. I still had a good time. Dennis had a couple things done to the boat that needed tested out and that worked out great. We did have a big tree/log hit the front of the boat that called for some tense moments.

But you are not going to catch any thing for sure if your not out there. Good luck. I caught a 20lb blue when it was a it peak in St. Charles. It took me about 18 hours.
