I would start by using that map posted above, and keep track of where the birds are in the spring. I would have my feeder up when the get there, no a month later. second, I would use some red handkerchiefs tied in a flower like (roundish) shape. put 3-5 of these around your feeder in the spring to get the birds attention. Then once they find the feeder, keep it full. Biggest mistake most people make is putting the feeder out too late, and for most of america, May is too late. Not to hijack the thread but can anyone suggest some ways to attract them to the feeder? I know they are around here but we've only seen one at the feeder so far this year and none last year. Previous to that we had loads of them. The feeder hangs on the outside edge of the front porch where it's always been and even though the nectar never goes down we put fresh in every couple of weeks.
We live about 30 miles north of indianapolis.
Thanks...W
