Well I am just wrapping up the 2017 catfishing season on the Red River. I made the jump from an ONIX 10si to the Helix 10 G2N. I was apprehensive about losing my touch screen but the new AutoChart Live and MEGA drew me to the change. (I should note I bought before the Solix was released)

So after one year of use and one minor tweak from factory settings I have my MEGA dialed in to the point that I can now tell pockets of carp or walleyes from catfish. If I take my time to really look for fish and find one just a little suspended off the bottom he is as good as on the hook. I give Humminbird very high rankings for this one because MEGA has changed the way I fish in some situations. The unit is also very easy to use.

So with that here are some fun screenshots for you to enjoy. The two with the big shadows are of catfish fights that the unit caught while we were fighting fish. ENJOY! S00104.PNG S00137.PNG S00184.PNG S00168 (3).PNG S00178.PNG S00170.PNG

That's very impressive captain Brad, you can even see the fork in the tail in the one picture.

Was there a big difference between the Onix and Helix? I've seen some Onix screenshots and they looked pretty good

It was not ONIX to Helix it was getting the MEGA imaging that made the difference and it is night and day. Helix G2 models have it and the new Solix (the ONIX replacement)

I had a Mega 9 but sold it. But I've been eye-balling a used Onix and wondered how much quality image I'd really be missing.

My personal feeling is you were better off with the MEGA and helix 9.

If you're buying new, then it will come with one. I've never seen new Humminbirds sold without.

I have a Gen1 Helix and rely on it heavily for my fishing. Almost dont fish a spot if I do not mark fish! I have been wanting a new unit with Mega. Couple of my friends have been telling me it is a game changer. Great pics!

I have always been a big fan of the Humminbirds. I personally owned a 997, 898, ONIX 10 and now Helix 10 MEGA. SI is a huge part of how I fish but a funny story. I was at a sport show learning about the new AutoChart Live features which is what spurred me to upgrade. While I use AutoChart a ton the MEGA has just blown me away.

Not fish but here is a truck and a garage I shot at the bottom of the river.

CaptainBrad, I might be using a Gen1 Helix this upcoming season. Any tips for using it catfishing?

My Mega 9 was used in Canada for a week, and at home twice. So I didnt have enough time to dial it in for cattin'

With Lowrance, i was a little more familiar with what a cat looked like on it, pallette 13, etc.

On HB are cats on 2D easy to distinguish because of their harder heads?

If it is set up, YES. I almost never use 2d for catfishing. Here is a shot where I found one sitting in a small hole.
