was out on a bike ride today and came across this group of painted turtles sunning themselves under an overpass near downtown Dayton (ohio). i didnt know painted turtles got this big, smallest was about the size of a 5-gallon bucket lid!

Man I thought our bridges in Kansas were bad. Brave of you to stand there and snap photos. Hate to have to compete with those turtles while fishing. Definitely no stringers.

I've always wondered about this. Anybody here ever eat a painted turtle? I know about snappers and softshells, but that's as far as my knowledge goes.

To bad you couldn't go down a shine up their shells before you took the pics Dink. lol

    Hey great pics.

I'm sure most of you know this but ... the big painted turtles are always female. Males don't get half the size the females get. Also the males have real long claws on their front legs. They use them in their mating rituals

It's ironic how we are complaining about the bait stealing turtles and we have an add for turtles on here. LMAO
