My fishing buddy, fellow Brother H20 Mellon has only been catishing for 4 years..I have 25 years of experience, so I am called the mentor, and he is called the sidkick..I have made a list of rules for him to follow, if you can think of any to add please do so.

    1. Catch all the bait, must throw a castnet properly to get shad. Live bait must be kept live, cut bait must be kept cool on ice.

    2. Do not paylake your mentor, give him the best spots, he is teaching YOU!

    3. Do not throw fits when you cast your bait into a tree.

    4. Make extra trips to the truck to get your mentors snuff that he forgot.

    5. Be on time

    6. Do not sleep while fishing, you might miss a lesson.

    7. Bring a watch.

    8. Bring a radio.

    9. Do not get jealous when your mentor catches a bigger fish.

    10. Do not try and net a 25-lb flathead in 4 inches of water.

    11. Do not snore, see number 6 above.

    12. Do not put nicks in your mentors line while he is not watching.

    13. Purcahse your mentor a new abu 7000 and a ugly stik tiger rod for christmas.

    14. Must not pass gas while sitting next to your mentor!!!!!!!

    15. Search out new flathead water close to your mentors house!

    16. Must not laugh while passing gas, see number 14 above!

    17. Keep quality line on your reels at all times, so your mentor does not have to watch you cry when you lose a fish.

    18. More to follow.

    That was some funny stuff,LMAO!!!

You must fish alone a lot,LOL!!! ;)

They are called fishin' partners, or fishin' buddies, not sidekicks :D :D .

Sounds like ya'll have a blast when you get out there, that is what it is all about.

I'm going to agree with the Mentor part. I personally would like to think that Schoe is teaching me some valuable lessons on the water. He's got more experiance, and I am the "grasshopper" even though I've been fishing for close to 16 years for a multitude of species.

My question is, what if your teacher never lets you buy gas????LOL!!!

Ray, If mentor will not let you buy gas for the boat, then be sure not to overlook #13 buy mentor an abu garcia 7000 and uglysitck tiger rod for christmas, or at the very least a bottle of mentors favorite adult beverage

27.clean all mentors fish. hell guide you while having a drink (supplied by sidekick)

    28. do not leave peices of cut bait in mentors boat to stink it up.

    29. buy your own knives and pliers. mentor does not like to share. see 22.

    30. watch mentors pole when he has to tinkle.

    31. if mentor has a lead pot help make sinkers.

    32. take the truck up to the lot. mentor will warm up the boat.

    33. have bait ready when mentor needs it. don't wait till he askes for a peice. :cursing:

    The rest of the story.

My buddy H20 Mellon, has actually done quite a few of the things I listed...He has tried to net a 25-lb flathead I caught in 4 inches of water....While flathead fishing he cast a nice big live crappie into a tree, boy what a fit he threw :D ..I swear he put nicks in my line one night, and he is always falling asleep  And he gets mad wheh I outfish him and he plays net boy :D However he cant catch bait, or throw a castnet worth a darn!

Boy, I work a 14 hour shift @ work, go to bed as soon as I get home, get up 5 hours later & see this! :p NO RESPECT! Yes I am guilty of trying to net a big flathead in 4 inches of water! I would like to point out that it is I the sidekick who has the melting pots & makes sinkers.

It's 6:05AM, I have o go vote then be at work well..... 5 minutes ago. :crying: Just wait until my real reply tonight. One fact to ponder though: What kind of mentor makes his sidekick go over 2 years fishign together before they catch a fish? Thats right, we fished for 2 years & the largest fish that either of us caught was a 10 inch channell cat.

We went that long without catching fish because my sidkick likes to fish easy access spots...I did put him on his biggest flathead to date this year!..I could have put Mellon on fish much sooner, but I needed to teach him paitence..When I felt he was ready, I put him on fish  ..And to date I have never recieved a sinker from my sidkick :D..If he buys a johnboat, I will raise him to partner status :D

luckly neithe rone of us drink! We've had a blst this year.

We used to almost fight over Shad Heads when they were our go to bait thi year. it was funny, one of us would get up, cut a nice fresh piece of shad & give it to the other one, while it seemed like a nice gesture, it was really meant to assure that the one wasnt going to take the others Shad head!
