how many miles

    how many miles is it from the locks at santee to the Charleston harbor also is it marked all the way down thanks in advance.

    The canal below the dam is about 4 miles long before it enters the Cooper River, then it is marked, beginning some distance below that point, but in some areas you have to really pay attention to stay in the river, especially on high tide, when it is easy to enter flooded rice fields. The river is pretty deep in most places, but there is a shoal in the middle on low tide just above the power lines that cross near the SCE&G power plant. It is probably 45 miles or so to Ft. Sumter in the harbor. Some areas are restricted near the old Naval Base area; no stopping or fishing allowed.
