Have done that more times than I would like to remember Ole. Only our cows tails never seemed that clean. Would always have to hold the tail between my knee and her hock to keep her from slapping it at me. At least these cows weren't wearing kickers.

Did ya notice the stool Ole? That one legged stool. Have my, my Dad's and my brothers stool here at home now. Ma saved everything. It is out by the old dinner bell in front of our home now. That stool is a chunk of Osage Orange with a white oak board nailed on top with cut nails. We parked our rears on that stool, twice a day, 365 days a year. Will tell ya a story sometime about milk and milking and the only lie my Mother ever uttered that I heard. She repeated that lie almost on a daily basis. I am sure she got demerits from God for it, but she had to do it.

Phil, I can remember before I was old enough to help milk going to the cow lot with my tin cup. My brothers got a kick out of seeing how many cups milk I'd drank. I like that warm milk. I think they also fed me like the cats. :smile2:

We had one made of iron, the seat was an inspection plate from a tractor engine. Wish I'd kept it.
After we married my father in law was milking, a calf kept trying to suck, he got mad and kicked the calf in the head, hit a horn with his ankle and broke his foot. He got to wear a cast on his foot for quite a while. :smile2:

But we were sanitary, mom strained all the milk we saved for the icebox through a clean flour sack. That did get out the tail droppings.
