Thanks for post Richard..interesting! i don't have any right now but I am interested in them... My grandpa has an old .22 octagon, bull barrel in a wooden case he said will be mine someday...can't imagine what it's worth, but will never sell it if I have it at some point. i had a close friend in Alaska who collected old rifles... he killed a moose one morning with a beautiful ocatagon barrel 40-82. Towed it up out of the valley with my jeep and loaded it in his pick up whole....:cool2::smile2:

I love an octogon barrel. The only one I have is a Thompson Center Renegade
.54 cal. 1" on the flats of the octogon. I have made meat many times with
this rifle. My son has a Marlin 1895 cowboy in 45/70 with an octogon barrel
its a rifle not a carbine it has a great feel to it, very well balanced.

Richard, you hit on one of my gun fetishes, LOL. I've only got one but LOVE the octogon barrels. I've got the 45/70 marlin cowboy with the 26 inch octagon barrel and it's a blast to shoot. I've always wanted to build a winchester model 94 with a 24 or 26 inch octogon barrel with the crescent stock, apeture sight, and chamber it for the 30/30 Ackley Improved cartridge. I've also dreamed of building one custom bolt gun with a nice octagon barrel. Boy, you sure hit a good question on this one, LOL! Now you know what you can get me for Christmas this year:big_smile:

A good friend of mine has an Annie Oakley 30-30 octogon and it's a sweet lookin rifle....I don't think he has ever shot it. It has a gold plated barrel.
I offered to buy it from him but he won't sell. :sad2:
