it depends on the bait you are using me personally i will reel in after 20 or 30 mins without a bite rebait if needed and cast about 20 to 30 feet away from the spot i was just in if fishing a small lake or pond i will move to a new location after 20 or 30 mins with no bite

In the summer you need to reel up and refresh your bait more often because the water temperature higher and makes your bait go bad faster. In the colder seasons it seems the bait stays fresh longer because the water is colder.

So, in the summer I usually reel up and change bait every 15-20 minutes. Rest of the year I usually don't reel up for at least 25 minutes if I have not gotten a bite yet.

I also agree with what Bruce said about moving, we usually give a spot 30 minutes to an hour and if they are not biting good we move.

It depends. For Flatheads it's probably best to always use Live Bait, for Blue's and Channels, cut bait usually is the best. And the fishing is not always best on the bottom, sometimes you need to use a bobber to suspend your bait. Normally in the Fall, Winter, and Spring, fishing on the bottom is best though.
