does anybody know how long catfish have been on planet earth....hookman....
I found some information, but it's not that clear. This website http://gsa.confex.com/gsa/2006NE/finalprogram/abstract_99178.htm said they found fossils dating back to the age of the dinosaurs. That doesn't explain how long the ones we are fishing for now have been around though.
Flathead catfish fossils that are about 15 million years old, from the mid-Miocene Epoch, cant be distinguished from the modern flathead catfish.
I don't know for she but I can remember them being around all my life, LOL!!!
Longnose Gar, Alligator Gar, Sturgeon, Bowfin, and our precious Flathead are all prehistoric fish species.
I read an article about "the Camden Catfish" from prehistoric ages. It's average weight was estimated at 1500lbs.
Shoot, ya beat me to the Bowfish this time, lol
My guess is that they have been here for millions of years.
:confused2: REMEMDER FELLOWS (THAT GOD CREATED ALL LIVING THINGS ) SO I'D SAY THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND SINCE GOD CREATED THEM. NOT TRYING TO PUSH RELIGIEN ON ANYONE ,ITS JUST MY OPION.
thanks guys i thought they might be from prehistoric times but wasnt sure. i hope they last another 15 million years, so all the humans can have a chance to see them and fish for them....hookman....
