how do use bluegill for bait and what do you catch with it
u can use it whole, cut, filleted, cubed, or whatever ur fancy
i use it whole and steak style cut
u catch channels and flats up here, no blues though
but i have cought channels on a whole gill, the one in my avatar was on a 4 inch whole gill
but u will catch more flats with a whole gill... IMO
but with cutbait u could catch both and will probably catch more channels again IMO
HOPE this helps
I use them for live bait and I hook them right behind the dorsal fin.
I use 3-6" long bluegills, hooked right behind the dorsal fin to avoid hooking them through the spine or vital organs. They stay alive on the hook for quite a while.
Big Cat, if you do a search in the library, you can find a few threads on using gills for bait. I use them primarily with the intent to catch big flatheads. I will use them either cut up or I hook them whole in the back just under the fin. I hope this helps. Good Luck.
Live and Cut, check the library. Some great info there for ya.
Stick the hook through the eyes. I have caught channels, blues, flathead, largemouth bass (pb of 6 1/2#), smallmouth bass, turtles, hybrid bass, and gar.
My pb cat was a 10# blue caught on bluegill head.
Here are a couple threads from the library for ya.
The first is on Cutbait....how to
The second is on Gills
Hope they help ya.
depending onhow big they are will determine where i hook em small ones i hook in tail. big ones i hook through the back.
