    cup of cornmeal
    1/2 cup self rising flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 to 1/2 cup chopped onion
    1 egg beaten
    2/3 cup milk
    vegetable oil

combine first five ingredients in a large bowl. add egg and milk, stirring just until ingredients are moistened. let stand 5 minutes.
drop by spoonfuls in hot oil ( 375 ).

This is the basic recipe we use.

Walter, I like some peppers in mine too. Could even add some cheese or some choped seeded tomatoes, well I'm hungry now so I gotta go.

Glad there are really some fluffy hushpuppies,I tried making some once .They were real bland and hard as a rock,I won't hardly even eat LJS HPs Guess it may be an aquired taste.,I'd rather have a big slice of hot buttered cornbread instead.,But hey, I'm Really gonna try them again, and with all the recipes,I might find one I like.
