Personally,I don't give a hoot about the rating system.
I read posts, respond if appropiate, make my own reports, throw in some comments.

If someone has a great rating, but a bad post,it makes no difference and visa-versa.

This board does a great job of self moderating.

In the words of a great American
    "..I yam what I yam...",ratings won't change me.

Funny i ran across this thread because i was just thinkin to myself what the heck is a squire? Anyway, ur absolutely right. somepeople with high ratings say some of the most offkey things sometimes, and some people with no rating make some excellent points. If someone takes time to answer an inquiry of mine, i do tend to increase thier stature just incase it means somethin to them. But like i said, dont let ratings fool you, there are some bonified, true to the core, catmen here who dont mind sharing some of the deepest secrets and if u look for ratings, youll almost pass up good learning opportunities. Im not bashing anybody who's earned any sort of credibility, im just saying be careful not to get caught up in ratings. Post good info, ask whatever's on your mind, respect others&participate as oft as u can. Enjoy the site man!

Bigal1, listen to Phatkat, man. Don't get caught up in the numbers deal. I have nothing against the rep system, but the rep points or post numbers aren't important to me at all.
The others have good ideas, too. There are a lot of good members here. I haven't had a problem with anyone. Some like certain hobbies or things that don't interest me at all, and vice versa, but we all have an interest in catfishing, which is why we are here.
    1) Respect other members rights and ideas.
    2) Pertinent information, clear and concise..
    3) Remember, there are ladies and young children on this site, too. Keep it clean! If you wouldn't want your young kids to read it, don't post it.

If by rating you mean rank, it goes up with post count. Reputation is totally different and goes up or down when other members rate your posts.

An excerpt from our FAQ about reputation:

    Member Reputation Q/A

Q: What level Reputation do I start Out At?

    A: 0 (Zero)

Q: How many posts must a member have before his reputation hits count on others?

    A: 5

Q: How much reputation must a member have before his reputation hits count on others?

    A: 5

Q: How many reputation clicks can a member give over each 24 hour period?

    A: 20

Q: How many different members must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again?

    A: 10

Q: When do the little green circles get added?

A: For every 100 points lost or received

Q: Whats the quick way you can find your level?

A: Hold your mouse over a reputation dot, and read the alt text that appears.

    Reputation Facts:

For every 180 days, members gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

For every 500 posts, members gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

For every 150 points of reputation recived, members gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

    What Are the Reputation Levels:

Member Has Level -5 Reputation -600

Member Has Level -4 Reputation -500

Member Has Level -3 Reputation -400

Member Has Level -4 Reputation -300

Member Has Level -2 Reputation -200

Member Has Level -1 Reputation -100

Being a dinosaur I didn't even know how to do reputation or what it meant truthfully.I was happy to be able to switch over and figure out how to post.Everybody on here has something to bring to the game.Contribute what you have and help people out and your reputation will take care of itself.Don't fixate on the numbers. There are people on here that only post occasionally but their knowledge of certain things far outwieghs their post numbers.

Skippy use the little scales icon at the top of the persons post. A box will pop up in the corner. Hope this helps.

Skippy, look in the upper right corner of the person's post, to the right side of the post #, click on the balance scale icon. This will bring up a screen that allows you to give that person positive (or negative) credit.

Reputation is who people think you are. Character is who you are when no one is watching.

Learned that one today at school. :D
