i usually look for holes atleast 40 ft. and fish the bottom but i also throw out one line in shallower water by the dike when on the mississippi river which is 90 % of the time

It is all relative. If you are fishing a lake/river where the max depth is 12 feet than that is deep. If you are fishing somewhere with 60 feet, than that is deep. I have pulled cats out of 60 feet of water in the winter, but i usually look for around 45-50 on the Ohio River.

I normally fish on the bottom and just wait for the big one to scoop it up a run:tounge_out:

I answered 8 to 12, but that IS the bottom, and that's where I always fish.

Keep track of what depth you are fishing when you get your hits. Drifting over these holes and runs can teach you alot, and you get to cover a lot more water. But do it slow

I just pulled a 31lbs fishing with a billybob about 15foot down, but as most folks here I fish the bottom if it is 12 ft or 55 feet.

    Catfights are the best fights!

I fish a medium size river . My best spots are on bottom in 8 feet or less. 3 to 5 ft is my best producer. Caught 7 fish between 30 and 40 lbs in 3 to 5 the last three years.

I fish bottom most times unless I fish bobber, but even then, I use a slip bobber and put it on bottom, or near it. Most of the water I fish, max depth is prob 15-20 ft. Most of the fishing I do though is in my local river and most of that runs from 3-10 ft in the spots I cat.

i always fish 2 on the bottom and 1 drifting 8-12 and normally the bottom does better but the last time i caught 4 4 pound channels on the bottom and 1 blue which was 6 pounds drifting but i would say the bottom is the best

As long as the water temperature stays above 40 degrees you can fish your normal spots when the water temperature is between 35 and 40 degrees the fish will be hanging closer to deep water when it falls below 35 degrees water temperature fish deep water only.
